DESIGN
The perfectly coordinated juxtaposition of natural materials and sleek finishes keep balance in the lobby’s design. A portorro marble and polished stainless steel reception desk is highlighted by a recessed, integrated uplight. Behind the desk is an iconic sunburst antique bronze mirror which adds depth and light to the atrium. A touch-screen flat-panel monitor provides always up-to-date directory assistance. A double framed custom mirror adds sparkle and whimsy along the hallway to offset the stainless steel elevator doors.
CONTEXT
Preeminent real estate development firm, Renaissance Properties, selected BG Studio International to renovate the lobby of their classic 1928, Springsteen and Goldhammer designed building. Centrally located in New York’s Fashion District, Times Square and across from the New York Times building, the lobby applies a fresh application of chic to the bones of a great old building. The renovation project won First Place for best lobby restoration from the Fashion Center Improvement District.
INSPIRATION
In the tradition of Diego Riviera and other great muralists, BG Studio International commissioned a custom Art Deco-inspired ceiling mural for the entry of 264 West 40th Street. Using neo-classical shapes and gilding the entryway is transformed into a discreet welcome to this design conscious building that spans.
